On Thursday August 5th, three bands played a free show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival.
Holly Miranda, Joan as Policewoman, and Metric took the stage — Holly Miranda and Metric were definitely the best bands of the evening.
Highlights were Holly Miranda playing “Waves” and “I’d Rather Go Blind,” with Kaki King joining in on guitar, and Metric playing an acoustic version of “Combat Baby” as the last song of the encore.

What: Kaki King/An Horse Concert Review
When: Saturday May 22, 2010
Where: El Rey Theatre in LA
An Horse, a two-piece band from Australia, opened up the show. The guitarist and lead singer of An Horse, Kate Cooper, played almost every song with a capo, which was interesting. The drummer, Damon Cox, also sang in addition to being a particularly good drummer. An Horse brought out Kaki King onstage to play guitar for their third song. But, An Horse had a very powerful, full sound for just two members. An Horse’s set was about 45 minutes (they played from 9:00 to 9:45).
Kaki King played for almost 2 hours (a longer set than usual) because the whole show was being filmed. She played with two other people – a drummer and a bassist/synthesizer/trumpet player.
Kaki King played old favorites such as “Pull Me Out Alive” and “Life Being What It Is” as well as new songs from Junior like “Death Head,” “Betrayer,” and “Communist Friends.” Sadly, she didn’t play her new song “Sunnyside.” Around 65% of Kaki King’s set was instrumental music, and the middle of the show (when her band was off the stage) was a little slow since there was no singing.
Two highlights of the show were the song “Jessica” with more drums and cymbals than the CD version, plus the last song in which Kaki King played and recorded multiple guitar parts, the drummer and trumpet player joined in, and then she jumped into the audience and danced with everyone in the front of the crowd.
