Michael Runion, Young Veins Concert Review

Yesterday Michael Runion and his backup band The Royal Family, along with The Young Veins, played at LA’s Echo.

Michael Runion opened the show with “Our Time Will Come” — starting subdued with just vocals and his guitar, and having his full band come in by the end of the song. He also played the more up-tempo songs “You and Me” and “Till We Have To.”

Unfortunately, he didn’t play “Soft Hands,” “Carol Caroline,” or “The Daylight” — but he made up for it by inviting Z Berg (The Like) onstage for his last song. They played a new JJAMZ song — it was the best song of the entire concert (title is unknown, possibly is “Dancing With The Dead”).

As soon as The Young Veins came onstage, many people in the audience were excited to see Ryan Ross…Upon seeing Ryan take the stage, a girl behind me exclaimed that she “cried” as soon as she saw him…I guess he has a loyal following from Panic At The Disco?

Highlights of The Young Veins’ set included “Take a Vacation,” “Change,” and “Maybe I Will, Maybe I Won’t” featuring Jon Walker on lead vocals.

This show was The Young Veins’ first show ever, and they embark on a national tour in a few days. For tour dates head to their MySpace.

Below is video of The Young Veins playing “The Other Girl” from the show:

Also in attendance were Tennessee Thomas (The Like), Annie Monroe (The Like), Blake Mills, Jason Boesel, Danielle Haim?, Dave Rawlings, Tony Berg, and Alex Greenwald.

(Two other bands, Smith Westerns and Pearl Harbor finished the early Saturday evening show).

UPDATE: To read Spin’s review of the show, click here. Spin reported that Jenny Lewis and Edward Sharpe were in the audience, which may not be accurate. Maybe they mistook Tennessee Thomas for Jenny Lewis?
